Salvatore Argiro, MD

I am a native of Upstate, NY: born and raised in Syracuse where I completed my undergraduate (BS) and graduate (MS) degrees at Syracuse University. I undertook my medical education at SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2004 (MD) and residency training in Psychiatry in 2008. I stood for examination by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in 2012 successfully (and literally, being the last class to be required to take an oral exam—up hills both ways).

I took my first attending physician position with UHS hospitals in 2008. As a member of the department of psychiatry at UHS I provided inpatient and outpatient care between 2008-2014, and between 2014-2016 provided emergency psychiatric and consultation services. In 2017 I joined the medical staff of Greater Binghamton Health Center (GBHC), a NYS Office of Mental Health operated facility. In this role, I provided care primarily to those with severe mental illness, which included significant forensic service.

In 2018 I established Mindful Psychiatry to balance the psychiatric problems I worked with, and to allow more flexibility to engage in psychotherapy, the therapeutic tool I most enjoy working with. My professional interests are in the areas of family dynamics, psychosomatic, trauma-related, and existential psychiatry. My personal interests in faith, philosophy, and spirituality (as well as my age) lead me to transition to full time private practice in 2021. I work exclusively with adults, but often incorporate elements of family therapy into treatment.
